C.U.B.A. Needs Your Help

Clean up Butts Association has served the citizens of Butts County since 2005.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life in Butts County by working with all segments of our community: Government, educational, religious, civic, private and business sectors with the goal creating a healthier, safer and cleaner county for all citizens.

We now need the help of the community we serve. In 2008, The City of Jackson accepted the Georgia Department of Community Affairs invitation to participate in the " Clean Community Challenge Program." CUBA was asked to coordinate the program on behalf of the City and we were pleased to help with this new program. A group of dedicated volunteers worked hard to meet certain deadlines of the program. This group produced and completed a Litter Awareness & Attitude Survey, a Litter Index Survey and wrote a "Comprehensive Litter Prevention & Strategy Plan for 2009-2012."

Since there is no available office space within city buildings, Butts County Government in a spirit of co-operation provided a small office for this project. We received a letter from the County on January 9 informing us that we must move out this space before February 1, 2010.

We desperately need a small office for our equipment and materials. We are requesting any business, civic club, church group or citizen that has any space available to please contact us at 770-775-0204.

CUBA's current programs are: Clean Community Challenge, The Great American Cleanup, GAC Challenge Contest, grades 1-5, 2010 Census, Adopt-A-Street/Road, Bring One for the Chipper and Beautification Awards. Please check our website at www.cleanbc.org.

Put Your Money Where Your House Is!

Put Your Money Where Your House Is!
2010 is the Year to break the CHAIN habit! Chain stores return very little of what their stores take in back to the communities where they operate. In contrast, study finds that independent retailers spend more than half their revenue locally. They bank at local banks, hire local accountants, advertise in local media and require many other local services that chains do not.

By shopping locally you are also supporting your local government. Everyday a tradegy or incident strikes and locally it is your local Police, Sheriff, EMT and Fire Fighters that come to rescue or aide. Money spent in your local town goes to support these entiities.

Please continue to Help support your Local Economy!

Local Food = Local Economic Growth!

'Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food' initiative for farmers to establish high tunnels
In an effort to help increase the availability of locally grown produce, the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering farmers funding for one high tunnel per farm through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the EQIP Organic Initiative, and the Agricultural Management Assistance Program. High tunnels, also known as hoop houses, are constructed from metal rafters and covered with greenhouse film or fabric. They are used to extend the growing season and improve crop production. For more information on this program, visit USDA.gov or contact your local NRCS office.

"This is a great way to support the 'buy fresh, buy local' concept and will greatly help the eco-municipality movement." 2010 Census-Is it a Good or Bad thing?

Have you seen a brand new school just built and then
classroom trailers being placed on that property to accomodate students?
Do you want to know WHY this happens?

Someone forgot to be COUNTED
Did you know that Only 65% of Butts County was
counted in 2000.

A Few Facts:

The 2010 Census will create hundreds of thousands of temporary employment opportunities nationwide.

Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to state, local and tribal governments based on census data. Census data help guide local planning decisions, including where to provide additional social services, build new roads, hospitals and schools, and where to locate job-training centers.

Community planners and governments rely on census data to determine where there is need for additional social services and funding. Census data can be used for forecasting future needs such as transportation, housing, safety and health care for all segments of the population.

Census data determine how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The 2010 Census

The 2010 Census is a count of everyone living in the United States and is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to distribute more than $400 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year and to make decisions about what community services to provide. The 2010 Census questionnaire will be one of the shortest in history and consists of 10 questions, taking about 10 minutes to complete. Strict confidentiality laws protect the confidentiality of respondents and the information they provide.
